Birch & Light actually began with songs.

Before there were picture books or characters or covers, there was a mom in a dark room humming to her baby, trying to turn a hard night into something softer.

The Birch & Light lullaby started there, when Tara was putting Faith to sleep and needed a simple, steady way to help her body and brain calm down. It wasn't written for an album. It was written for one small child on one very long night.

Other songs showed up in the noisy parts of family life, like writing the S'mores song together in the family music room with her daughter Brooke. "No Running in Socks" came while Tara was literally chasing kids around the house, repeating the same safety warning until it eventually turned into a song everyone could laugh and sing instead of just getting yelled at.

These songs weren't designed in a studio. They came out of real moments every parent recognizes, when safety, big feelings, and connection all collide in the same ten minutes.

Later, the stories arrived, and with them, a new kind of music.

Each Birch & Light story now includes its own original songs, written from the voices of the characters inside the book. These story soundtracks help children feel what the characters are learning, not just read about it.

The original songs come from real family moments.
The story songs come from the emotional journeys inside each book.

Together, they give kids something they can understand with their minds and feel in their bodies.
